Last Night

10:14 AM

I’m afraid to read my post from last night. I wasn’t terribly drunk when I wrote it but I figure it probably has at least enough spelling errors to make me want to go back and make changes, which I want to avoid.

I did want to add that Tom played this gem of an entry for us (not too unsafe for work). He had front-paged it for a short time a month ago but watching it last night we fell in love all over again, and I see that it’s back up there again as a result of last night’s shenanigans.

To continue with the updates I checked my Newgrounds mail account and see that the voicemails are still rolling in. The thread that started it all is still towards the top, chronicling somewhat our adventures with voicemail, the moderator link colors (“pink is the new green”), and even the decision to repost that surprisingly hilarious entry to the main page. I do see that the pink is still in effect….

Lastly, here are some of the best, dealing with such topics as:

Hilarious.

“Workin’” Overtime

12:13 AM

We sat around the office tonight instead of going into the city. Any notions we had about heading into Old City were squashed when Tom made the snap decision to run out for more beer and order pizza and wings. I’ll tell you what: It’s a lot more relaxing staying in on Friday with friends in an office than it would have been to go out and we were actually productive — in a way.

We launched a new forum thread that Stamper has been clamoring for. It debuted with a raunchy first post, so inappropriate that I won’t even link to it for fear that my poor grandmother might accidentally click the link and stumble upon it. Let’s just say that it’s along the same lines as the Penicorn and Tricockatops threads. The best part of this new thread besides finally making a few of my coworkers happy is that users can finally post large images however disgusting they may be. The new size will fit right in with the new layout.

In addition, Tom threw caution to the wind and posted a new topic titled Newgrounds Voicemail with simply our office number as the message. We received close to a hundred messages within an hour or two, the best part being that Tim programmed the voicemail system to forward the .wav files along to our email accounts so we could save the funnier ones for later. We called a few people back mostly at random and Mike even started work on a Flash program that could animate heads to go with our new library of sound clips; no clue as to whether this will ever get implemented. In one instance, we even went so far as to fulfill one user’s request that we change all the mods’ colors to pink:
Pink Mods

As for myself, I merely ate way too much food, drank way too much beer, and finally put the finishing touches (minus a few art changes) to the Audio Portal front page. Even though the voicemail forwards keep pouring in it’s time for me to call it a night. We’ve got one more lunch with Jim tomorrow before we see him off.

Our Mate Overseas

12:42 PM

Our coworker James from England is arriving for his 10-day visit today and the office is abuzz with anticipation. It was a little over a year ago when he was here last, before Tom moved Newgrounds into its new digs and hired half of us. First, there’ll be introductions all around and then our first outing after work at the General Lafayette Inn (possibly followed by quizo at New Deck Tavern if his jet lag hasn’t kicked in by then).

I met James on his last trip but at that point I didn’t have any inkling we’d be working together someday; he merely came out for quizo at The Bayou for a night (makes sense as I hear he’s quite the drinker). He and I don’t have quite the rapport that he and Ross have — we don’t have nightly cybersex nor will we be be holding hands while he’s here — but we’ll be talking more and more as the programming end of this redesign starts to take shape. It’ll be good to get a better image in my mind of the man I’ll be butting heads with in the near future.

That’s pretty much it: We’ll be coding, planning, and drinking tonight, tomorrow, and all of next week. I wish my trip to Chicago didn’t overlap with his visit, but Tom, Tim and company shouldn’t have any trouble keeping him occupied when he’s not coding merrily away. I should also add that my secret hope is he’ll be so excited by our office and the energy we frequently generate here that he won’t have any choice but to stay forever. Or at the very least another week or two. Maybe we can compromise by letting him fly home to make some final arrangements before he makes the permanent move to the U.S.
