Barcade was good to me Tuesday and I’m the Arkanoid champ once again. It took me one quarter and about an hour to get to the last level, and when I beat the boss man it ended my game on the spot. That pretty much killed my plan to wrap around to Level 1 and rack up the extra points but luckily I had already beat the high score by over 20,000.
My boss rode me hard yesterday, and not in the way that people usually mean it. I went mountain biking in Wissahickon Park with some coworkers and I’m sore all over. I had a lot of fun and though I’m going for a nice, easy (by comparison) run tonight I’ll give biking another try on Saturday.
That’s not “try” in the sense that I’ll see if I like it better — I’m definitely hooked. I’m just not sure my body will be up to the challenge again so soon. My palms and taint are bruised pretty well and scratches from the pedals cover my calves. I’m a little disappointed I don’t have more muscle soreness but I was taking it pretty easy all things considered. I’ll wait a week or so before buying a bike of my own and return the one I’m borrowing, but I can pick up a water backpack and some new sportswear Saturday.
It also works out nicely that I drive an Element. JT came with us yesterday and our two bikes fit comfortably in the back by merely folding the seats up. I didn’t need any bike rack, straps, or other mounting contraption. I never looked closely at the internal bike mount accessory for my car but I’m sure it, too, is unnecessary; the bikes didn’t budge an inch.
I’m interested in finding out if biking on the trails is something Dia would enjoy but I don’t think it is, her being a delicate flower and all. I can’t picture a body that gets bruised in water slides being able to withstand the rigors of biking across rocky terrain. It’s too bad since it would have been easier to justify spending lots of money on a new activity if it were something she enjoyed as well. On the other hand it could be a great way to escape from my wife for a while.
