tidbits

06:37 PM

There are a bunch of little things that I’ve ignored over the holiday season but really have to focus on now. Here they are in snazzy list format:

Our housemate Travis is moving out which is sad. It’ll be a little emptier around here; it was always nice to have someone else around even if we never talked a whole lot. The search is now on for a new housemate just to keep the place a little more lively. The rent is only $250 a month, there’s no lease whatsoever, and interested parties get to live with what I think are a pretty fun group of people though I am a little biased. So far it’s not going so well; some we don’t think would mesh well, others have pets, and still others think for some reason that we’re difficult to live with. Hmmph.
I still hold the lead in Ross’s survivor-style football pool. As the only one of three people left no strikes against him the $350 prize could very well be mine. I realize it isn’t over yet, but I’ve pledged my winnings (though they’re unaware of it yet) to fly Chris and Lisa out to Las Vegas for my wedding. Hopefully I’ll win soon so I can propose the idea in time for them to book a flight, and hopefully they won’t say no. I vaguely remember it being Rob’s idea, though I was a little drunk when it came up in our discussion. Either way, I’d be really sad if two of my best friends couldn’t make it. I wouldn’t want anyone else to make the wedding toastre or undertake the task of retelling our zany adventures.
We went out on the town last weekend for Party Guy’s birthday and we hung out with Elmo. It’s been far, far too long and the whole affair has me nostalgic for all the people I no longer see anymore.
I have to send out another Evite soon — one that includes an itinerary for the wedding. We won’t all be going to the same places but everyone should at least know where we’ll be should they be interested in joining us. The major things are the trip to the Hoover Dam and bachelor[ette] parties on Thursday, hiking up to Red Rock Canyon and obviously the wedding on Friday (followed by the Rio Seafood Buffet and The Amazing Jonathan later that night), and all the other little things like cruising the strip, visits to different poker rooms, and numerous trips to the In-N-Out Burger during the week.
We’re going tailgating on Sunday, which will be one of the last chances before we cruise down to Jacksonville in the 31-foot (plus pull-out section) RV we rented for the occasion. It’s going to be freezing, however we have enough bodies coming that we’ll be able to form a veritable herd of drunken warmth.
Other road trips are coming up soon as well. First is the New York City to hit Dia’s NYU orientation weekend, Tim’s brothers bar, and a comedy club. The week after that, Dia and I are travelling to Maryland for a wedding dinner thrown by my parents in lieu of flying to Vegas for the actual ceremony. Also, plans are in the works already for summer camping trips with the high school crowd and rafting with the college bunch.
Alright, peace out; time for T.V. night punctuated with games of Halo 2.

Dia had agreed to fill in for my on my blog while I was pursuing other interests, revamping my photo pages in particular. She claimed to have needed a creative outlet and vowed she could handle the responsibility better than I had in previous weeks. Boy, did she drop the ball. I should have known she’d be too focused on work to give a damn about my meager site.

So here I am, back in the seat. My attempts at tweaking Javascript code for a simple, elegant slide show were thwarted at every possible avenue of attack. The last 11-hour coding marathon yielded so little that I have given up for the time being. I can’t get the thing positioned right on all browsers without abandoning my style sheets and that’s sort of defeats the purpose when dealing with a dozen albums or so. I’m going to focus on the design for now and work out my intended functionality later, but I’ve lost about 85 percent of my interest and can’t bring myself to create page elements if I’m not sure I can position them attractively for every browser.

With all the time freed up by not caring about that portion of my site, I should be able to write every now and then.

“I see you Randy, shaking that ass, shaking that ass, shaking that ass”

We won best team name at Quizo again this week. Thought I should get that on the record, so there it is. I should also record the fact that the waitress now nicknamed Four Non-Blondes absolutely sucked at her waitressing duties and promoted drunk driving by refusing to simply take our winning pitcher of beer off our tab and forcing us to take a new one instead. So we were forced to give our spoils to the table full of strangers behind us.
