Adventures in Bobbysitting Part 2

05:26 PM

It’s hard to believe, but I finally have something interesting to write about: Bobby and I missed our flight to Las Vegas this morning!

Departure time was 8 a.m., but as a result of a series of totally ordinary events (e.g., Bobby mindlessly rushing through the flight info yesterday (twelve-year-olds kept asking if he could come out and play)), we slept in until 7:30 thinking that our flight was not until 10:40 a.m. There were 12 messages on Bobby’s phone when we finally got up - probably one from each member of the Rudderow and Webster (a.k.a. Princeton Tim) families - wondering why it was taking us so long to get through security…. Alas, we were still at home.

A call to America West, our carrier for the day, revealed that the next available flight would be at 8 p.m. tonight and that it costs an extra $500 per person plus a $100 issuance fee. We looked online for better deals, but when it became apparent that the going rate for a last-minute flight to Vegas today was indeed $800, we decided to head out to the airport and try to weasel ourselves onto the next flight without paying any extra fees. Lauren was still there; she also missed the flight because she got there a few minutes late and her seat was given away to someone else on the overbooked flight. She was rescheduled on the 1:45 p.m. flight through Houston, bumped up to first class, and even got a $350 voucher for later travel. :) Bobby and I, on the other hand, had to settle for the 8 p.m. flight, still in coach, and without any airline play money. By the time we got to the airport, someone (probably Tim’s mom, who had purchased the tickets in the first place) had already booked us on that flight.

But anyway, 8 p.m. is fast approaching and it’s time to head out the airport once again.

Adventures in Bobbysitting

12:40 AM

I now realize that promising Bobby I would write a few guest columns to try to fill the void caused by his Halo-playing madness was a mistake. First of all, my day-to-day activities are a hundred times as boring as anyone else’s — get up between 5:30 and 6 a.m.; get to work by 7; work though the day with only a few restroom breaks and one or two quick personal e-mail checks; get home by 7 p.m.; make dinner and spend some quality time with Bobby (and Tim) eating and watching TV; work some more before crashing to bed at 11:30 — so I can’t imagine why anyone wold be interested in reading my blog entries. Second, with the wonderful timeline outlined above, I can’t schedule regular blogging hours anywhere on my calendar.

As I said, I have nothing. I’ll try again tomorrow.

sweet, sweet photos

01:45 AM

We break from video games to bring you this important message. It’s slightly late since I promised Dan I’d have it up by now, but he’ll have to forgive me — I’m going to be tired at work all day tomorrow for him. I couldn’t very well miss Chris’s first few Halo 2 games with the group.

Here are the photos people have been pestering me about:

Halloween party

Thanksgiving/X-mas party

Happy? That’s not enough? Well I’m sorry baby, I’ve lost the will to write. You go on without me. Someday I’ll find it again, but with work as my creative outlet instead of something that gets in my way and Xbox as my new hobby I doubt it will be anytime soon. Even when I do get around to it writing, I plan to focus first on the code, which is absolutely hideous. I’m downright ashamed of it anymore.

Until my return, Dia plans on authoring a series titled Adventures in Bobbysitting. That’s her claim anyway, and she’s about as reliable as I am.
